In Gethsemane Charitable Trust, we are the light of hope and caring to the needy aged senior citizens who are abandoned and forgotten by the families they brought up. As a Charitable Trust (Reg No: 192/IV/2025, Kerala) our mission is based on the most profound values of humanity and compassion: to make people feel dignified again, help them, and unconditionally love them as those who have contributed so much in their lives and have got so little in return.
We mainly deal with the rehabilitation of helpless Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and other older adults who have been banished and abandoned by their immediate family members. Most of these elderly would have invested their best years of life working hard in other countries, remitting money back home, creating a brighter future to their children, and savoring what they thought were invincible ties of love and appreciation. However, during their old age when they are back in search of solace and companionship, they usually get deserted, forgotten, or even rejected. Such a tragic fact makes them helpless, lonely and deprived of their basic needs. We welcome such forgotten souls with open hearts and doors, and we not only give them a place of respite against the storm but a new feeling of belonging and value.
With the help of our Managing Trustee, Udayakumar N, we have a firm resolve to bring about an actual change. Our activity starts with outreach throughout Kerala and further. We have been proactive in gathering information on destitute seniors in need whether it is by community networks, referral or direct outreach and make sure that people who need our services are aware that we are always open. Despair is not a quality we found adequate to reject; we are sure that no old person deserves to be left without compassion, respect, and care no matter how they were, or how they are.
Now, we are offering them the much needed help that would take care of their immediate needs: healthy food to feed the body and soul, a doctor to cure the disease, and clean clothes to keep their dignity. These essential requirements are the core of our care, they assist the seniors to get back to their feet, and gain some stability, and a ray of hope. Our staff strives unendingly to make these types of services warm, respectful and with a true sense of concern, which means that every person is treated like the loved member of a big family.
In the future, we would like to increase our influence and scope. We intend to secure special quarters soon a healthful, quiet retreat, to which these seniors will be able to retire, to rest, to feel secure, and to be among friends. This will help us provide long term rehabilitation where we will be able not only to restore physical well being but also to restore emotional healing and spiritual tranquility. Gethsemane is not just an organization, it is a vow of undying loyalty to those who have been disappointed in life. As part of the biblical essence of love and service, we believe that with the help of a joint good act, we will be able to restore lives that have been ruined and we will be able to celebrate the wisdom and sacrifices of our fathers.
